New Video Update: In this video update you will learn how to configure PIM Specific Source Multicast or PIM SSM on a Cisco network topology. PIM SSM is considered part of a different type of Multicast topology. In traditional multicast networks, a receiver can get multicast traffic from any source that is streaming data. This is considered as a Any Source Multicast design or ASM. The other type is a Specific Source Multicast design and that uses the PIM SSM option.

IP Multicast is an effective way for sending large data across the network. Applications such as Music on Hold, Multimedia, to other streaming applications can consume network resources and bandwidth on the network. A robust Multicast infrastructure is dependent on the Unicast routing infrastructure including other objectives such as scalability and reliability.

Our Design and Configuration guide will present these objectives and more. This training workbook will show you how to deploy IP Multicast in a practical network environment in the LAN and Internet Edge showing the design, configuration, and monitoring aspects.
